PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk is a member of the Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, a multi-national company with agri-industrial core business that covers multi phases of food production. PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia (CPI) at that time started out with its main business in animal feed formulation. In the 1980s, CPI enlarged the scope of its business onto livestock production, aquaculture, animal health, fertilizers, and vegetable and fruit seeds. In late 1990s, CPI expanded further to include poultry processing and the production of processed food. Today, CPI is the dominant producer of poultry feed and breeding stock, high quality of shrimp and fish feed, and one of the main players in the animal health business in Indonesia. With a commitment of providing better products and better services, CPI established its Research and Development Center in Jakarta in the late 2003. Bioinformatics group under Genetics Enginering Division of Biotechnology Department R and D PT. CPI, this group supporting project another division in Biotechnology Department.

Bioinformatics service

Our R&D bioinformatics group are mainly involved in supporting system for every researcher in order to suceed their research and giving contribution especially in Genetic Analysis (DNA seq and QPCR) and designing primer and probe for PCR and QPCR besides, we are also still evolving another research to support our business in aquaculture and feed

Shrimp EST Projects

We are focusing on EST (expressed sequence tags) genome project of the Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp, the main goal of the EST research is to obtaining relevant markers for shrimp genetic improvement with total sequence 100k ESTs from three different tissues (cephalothorax, eyestalk, and pleopod).  tools in bioinformatics such as phred, phrap, and consed are useful to  handle such a huge sequences data.
We conduct this research cooperate with academic collabolator, Department of Biology Washington University in St. Louis (Wash U). As part of human genome project institution, Wash U has experienced to sequence the genome many of organism with highly coverage and established pipeline.

Bioinformatics plays a key important to analyze and align short EST sequences into contigs and singletones.  Aligned short sequences information from ESTs indicate which genes are expressed under normal dan altered condition, thus we can compare gene expression level e.g. between healthy shrimp and shrimp infected by disease.
